There is a new face in the Elgin Clinic. - Open Door Clinic is proud to announce the addition of Dr. Shaheena Hossain to the medical team. Dr. Hossain is a Board Certified Psychiatrist. She will be seeing clients in the Elgin clinic every other Tuesday. If you would like an appointment to meet with Dr. Hossain, speak with your Case Manager, Nurse, or Kim. Additional information about the doctor will be included in subsequent newsletters.

According to the most recent Illinois HIV Surveilance Report, 559 individuals in Kane County, 101 in McHenry County, 50 in DeKalb County ad 14 in Kendall County are living with HIV/AIDS. This represents an increase of 118 new cases in ODC’s service delivery area in 24 months. It is a fact that this number is probably higher due to reporting backlog, inaccurate data collection, and under reporting. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) an additional 42% (304) - 59% of HIV+ people are “untested, untreated or both”.
