COMPLEMENTARY THERAPIES

Although primary medical health care is essential in the treatment of HIV and AIDS, its does not provide for all of the patients needs. Medicine alone does not treat the whole person and people with HIV and AIDS need alternative paths to wellness. Complementary methods of health care, such as Massage Therapy, are designed to work in harmony with your individual choices and needs.  If you, or anyone you know is living with HIV or AIDS, you owe it to yourself to find out how Massage Therapy and other forms of Complementary health care can help to optimize overall health and wellness, and enhance quality of life.

As a progressive health care facility, OPEN DOOR CLINIC continually strives to offer optimal health care and support services to people living with HIV & AIDS. In keeping with this commitment, OPEN DOOR CLINIC is now able to offer Massage Therapy, at no cost, to people living with HIV & AIDS.

MASSAGE
Massage is done in the Aurora office, Joliet and at a private agency in the St. Charles area.
Massage is used to reduce the stress your muscles feel.  It is also helpful to address circulation problems secondary to your medications and your illness.  When needed we may be able to refer you for chiropractic and acupuncture services.

SWEDISH MASSAGE
Swedish Massage is the foundation for many other forms of massage therapy. It incorporates a systematic method of muscle and soft tissue manipulations, designed to promote relaxation, stimulate circulation, improve range of motion and relieve muscular tension and stress, thus improving your overall state of well-being.

AROMATHERAPY MASSAGE
Using pure plant and flower essential oils in conjunction with massage therapy can add a new dimension to your therapeutic experience. (Please inform your therapist, if you have aroma sensitivities.)

LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE MASSAGE
Lymphatic Drainage Massage encourages more efficient circulation of lymph fluid by employing a specific system of gentle massage strokes directed toward lymph nodes. Lymphatic Drainage Massage also facilitates the elimination of metabolic waste and toxins, which in turn, helps to strengthen the immune system.

MENTAL HEALTH & SUBSTANCE ABUSE
Supportive Services were introduced to assist the individual in working through problems with counseling/therapy services.  We are also able to provide support in a safe and secure environment to address substance abuse and life issues.  In addition we have support groups; working on issues of substance usage and working on conditions secondary to HIV infection.

DENTAL
The agency is able to provide referrals for regular dental examinations.  Some of these services include routine cleaning, fillings, extractions and oral surgery as warranted.

NUTRITION
When an apple a day is not enough we can provide you with an appointment with a nutritionist.  In this program you will be given information on eating more healthy and taking control of your nutritional health.
